In Their Footsteps---The Creation of Folkdance in Modern IsraelWednesday, February 27, 2008, 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 8:30 pm Etc/GMT-7 Follow in the footsteps of the first Israeli folk choreographers as they searched for a new dance form for an emerging country. The dances of the Yemenites, Hassidim, Arabs, Druze and Bedouins (all of which inspired Israeli Folkdance) will be featured along with the "classic" Israeli dances choreographed by the "mother of Israeli Folkdance"--Rivka Sturman. The course will also show where Israeli dance is going today and teach some of the newest dances coming out of Israel. Includes archival film footage, lecture and dance participation. This four session course, brought to you by Lehrhaus Judaica, is only available as a series; we apologize, but there are no drop ins. The cost of four classes is $40 members/$50 general public. The theatre offers dance workshops and lectures for all ages throughout the Bay Area. Bruce was a participant of the Krakow Jewish Cultural Festival ’06 and recently completed the Karmiel Course for Foreign Dance Teachers in Israel. Bruce holds his B.A. in Asian Theatre and Dance from U.C. Berkeley, and his Yiddish dance teachers include master dancers Steve Weintraub, Michael Albert and Deborah Strauss.
