Modernity and the age of enlightenment have not resulted in a more civil, peaceful and moral world.  There are people  who feel out of control and vulnerable in a world of pluralism, uncertainty, and moral and religious confusion.  This is the fertile ground on which zealots become militant and reactionary.  Fundamentalists profess certitudes which are summed up in statements such as: “Not only is the Bible true – but it is the only source of the truth” (Dr. Wierwille); “The Koran is the arbiter for all disputes…Islam finalizes all religions on earth” (Sheik Fatlaw);  There is only “Torah True Judaism.”  This course will review the underlying beliefs of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish fundamentalist.  What are they fighting for? Fighting against? Fighting under?  This course will examine the background of the fundamentalism of different religions, as well as the differences and commonalities among fundamentalists.
