8:00 pm - 11:30 pm Study Sessions

Join Cantor Sharon Bernstein and the educators of CSZ  as we study various Jewish texts.  Tikkun Leil Shavuot is an evening of learning in honor of our receiving Torah at Sinai.  When we study Torah - in all its glorious forms - we again stand at Sinai and receive revelation.  After some prayer and a dairy potluck, we'll be learning from 8 pm to 11:30 pm.  Feel free to drop in and add your personal Midrash to our evolving understanding of Torah and the World.

Reading Challenging Texts with Andrew Ramer

The story of Lot/Lut in the Torah and Quran. Join us to read and discuss these stories.

A Call to the Wise-Hearted with Cantor Sharon Bernstein

In the Torah, God calls upon those with chochmat lev, wisdom of the heart, for special tasks.  In this study session, we will explore this unusual phrase through its many occurrences in the Torah and in commentaries.

Dem Dry Bones with Gabriel Lampert

Ezekiel's vision of the dry bones points up difficulties in
translation, the effects of the translator's biases, and a glimpse of
how Hebrew has changed in 2500 years.  We
will discover how no translation, regardless of how carefully it is done, is able to transmit one of the most salient messages that Ezekiel wanted to send.

Lauding Catastrophes with Beth Sousa and Shoshanna Levenberg

There are places in our Torah and other works where we are commanded
to be provocative and in some way celebrate great catastrophes,
slayings and other awful things.  Join us for a study session on these
troubling passages.
