Jeffrey A. Miller Scholar-in-Residence Weekend:

“On Dry Ground: Faith, Fear and Transformation at the Edge of the Sea”

with Andrea Hodos, creator of Moving Torah

Friday, February 3 – Saturday, February 4

Celebrate Shabbat Shira with Andrea Hodos, creator of Moving Torah – an approach to text and tefilah (prayer) that combines writing, movement and theater. Through tefilot (prayers), performances and participatory workshops, Andrea will help us explore the themes inherent in the Israelites' journey across the Red Sea (the Torah portion we read on Shabbat Shira): What does it feel like to have solid ground below your feet, but walls of water on either side? How do we harness faith to move forward through fear?  How do we jump in when we're not sure how the story is going to end?  Who do we rely on to help us through?

Andrea will join Rabbi Angel and Cantor Bernstein on the bimah on Friday, February 3 and services will include a Moving Torah tefilah experience. On Saturday, she will participate in Beit Sefer Phyllis Mintzer’s Opening Circle, and then offer another Moving Torah tefilah experience and d’var Torah during Saturday morning services. After lunch, there will be a two-hour Moving Torah workshop, followed by a Saturday evening performance/event.
